Cosmetology Licensure Compact Commision

What is the Cosmetology Licensure Compact Commission?

As established in Article 9 of the Compact Model Legislation, the Commission is the governing body made up of the participating states who have joined the compact. The Commission is responsible for creating regulations, rules and policies to administer and govern the compact. The Commission’s delegates are representatives from each state’s licensing authority.

When will the Compact become operational?

The Cosmetology Licensure Compact was enacted in its seventh member state in June 2024. In accordance with Article 13 of the model legislation, this triggers the establishment of the Cosmetology Licensure Compact Commission. The Compact Commission will convene for the first time in October 2024. After the initial meeting, the Commission will adopt bylaws and rules to administer the compact and begin the process of developing the shared data system required under Article 10. The Commission hopes to activate the compact for licensees in early 2026.
